The deadly consequences of the City of Takoma Park's sanctuary law for illegal aliens were demonstrated once again by the recent slaying of Tai Lam.  The 14-year-old Montgomery Blair freshman honors student was slain Nov. 1 by Hector Hernandez on a county Ride On bus.

Police report that Hernandez is an illegal alien residing in Takoma Park and is a member of the violent MS-13 gang.  Takoma Park has become a haven for illegal immigrants as a result of its sanctuary law, which prohibits police from inquiring about City residents' citizenship or contacting Federal immigration authorities when suspects are detained.  Consequently, violent individuals such as Mr. Hernandez are protected by the City from Federal immigration law enforcement, which could help get such criminals off our streets.

The City's sanctuary law is in direct conflict with Federal law, which prohibits local governments from interfering with law enforcement officers' ability to contact Federal immigration authorities about the citizenship status of individuals.

How many more deaths of innocent county residents at the hands of illegal aliens is it going to take before the Takoma Park City Council revokes its dangerous and illegal sanctuary law?
