Capitalism in Downtown Silver Spring. You Think?

| | Comments (2)

These "Capitalism Did This" signs were handed out after the screening of Michael Moore's film "Capitalism A Love Story," held at the AFI Silver Theatre on September 28th.  I was told that attendees were asked to place the signs in their community where they felt Capitalism was to blame for something they felt was wrong.

Sure, Capitalism may be partly to blame for this empty lot in the 900 block of Thayer Avenue, but I also have to blame an uncaring public who did nothing to help the Silver Spring Historical Society save at least some of the important history located here that was demolished.

Interesting detail, Jerry. I wonder if Michael Moore has an advance crew putting signs on vacant lots to promote his movie. A little simplistic.

Jerry, Eric & others -
I was at the screening at AFI last night & Mr Moore's talk afterwards - BTW it was a very powerful film - he said his goal was to finally make a film not about the symptoms but the cause and also to advocate real action we could take - which I applaud as so many documentaries just point out depressing problems and never have any solutions.
As for the signs, as we left we were invited to take one if we felt so moved and to place it in our local communities at a location where we thought capitalism had failed us.
It was over close to midnight so I took my sign home to sleep on it and actually had this same spot in mind this morning, someone beat me to it. If you have another spot you feel would tell the story say a foreclosed home on your block, then just drop me a line.
