Seriously?

It's astonishing that his nominators kept a straight face!

One of the three candidates nominated for Mayor of Takoma Park is Roger Schlegel, listed as residing on Allegheny Avenue in Ward 3.

So far little is known of Mr. Schlegel and his campaign platform, other than the typical vagaries offered by the people who nominated and seconded him: "We can do better," and allusions to it being "critical" who we have as mayor in "this difficult time" to "travel down the right path," and the like. He was described as a high school teacher and a parent.

As is traditionally the case with all nominees, he did not make any speeches at the nominating caucus, so we have not heard from the actual candidate.

However, he, or someone else under the name Roger B. Schlegel, does offer some "forward-thinking ideas about the future of Takoma Park" on a blog written in July of 2008, subtitled "Don't MAKE Me Run!".

Dear Readers,

Adding drama to an already dramatic and surprise-filled nominating caucus, Terry Seamens, seen making the "Geez, I dunno" gesture in the photo, declined to decline one of the two nominations he received. He was nominated for mayor, AND he was nominated for Ward 4 councilmember. He must eventually decline one of the nominations. The nature and outcomes of two important election races hang on his decision.

Stacked Force?

Dear Readers,

"I feel like it is an inquisition," said Mayor Bruce Williams.

"Off with his head!" quipped Steve Davies, city resident and jilted applicant to the Task Force on Environmental Action.

It was an awkward moment. Davies had just challenged the councilmembers and mayor to identify which members they personally had appointed to the Task Force. He objected to the "condescending" manner in which the mayor had breezed through the official listing of newly appointed Task Force members.

Council Junk-it

In lieu of a meeting, the Takoma Park City Council embarked on a junket Monday, Sept 14. They traveled in luxury to the exotic land of the Public Works Department to frolic between the mulch piles and fuel tanks, to take a relaxing sunset stroll amidst the splendor of trash trucks and tipping bins - ALL ON THE TAXPAYER'S DIME!

Your Gilbert's agent, disguised as a bale of newspapers, sneaked onto the exclusive grounds of the gated facility to surreptitiously obtain the following photos.

They're Baaaaaack!

Dear Readers,

How will the city staunch the financial wound dealt by the state's governor? Will it raise taxes? Will the Public Works renovation be postponed? Will city NGO's go begging? Will dogs run free? Will President Obama attend the Takoma Park Folk Festival?

Isn't it thrilling? The council is back, let the drama ROLL!
