Takoma Park City Council Resolution

On Monday, April 19, 2004, Lenore Robinson, long-time Chair of the Takoma Park Folk Festival and beloved resident of the City, passed away in her sleep.

Lenore left a legacy of enduring dedication to her family, community and most especially to the Takoma Park Folk Festival.

Expressing Condolences to the Family of Lenore Robinson and Commending Her Dedication to the Takoma Park Folk Festival

WHEREAS, Lenore Robinson embodied the spirit and force behind the Takoma Park Folk

Festival as an early festival organizer and the longtime festival director; AND

WHEREAS, Lenore Robinson introduced her love of folk dancing to the festival and was a wellrecognized symbol of Takoma Park in her year-round attire of festival t-shirts; AND

WHEREAS, Lenore Robinson was the "hub of the wheel that made the festival go round" for 364 days a year and was the "eye in the middle of the storm" on festival day; AND

WHEREAS, Lenore Robinson advocated for equal opportunities in education as a teacher in Anacostia and in other impoverished neighborhoods and was a 25-year employee of the National Education Association; AND

WHEREAS, Lenore Robinson had a high disregard for the public spotlight that was in inverse proportion to the high esteem in which she was held; AND

WHEREAS, Lenore Robinson was a 31-year resident of Takoma Park about whom it was repeatedly said "what she does is never about herself"; AND

WHEREAS, Lenore Robinson exemplified in her own life her moral groundings in human rights, cooperation-before-confrontation, service to community and love of family. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAKOMA

PARK, MARYLAND, on behalf of the staff and residents that, we extend our sincere condolences to the family of Lenore Robinson, and we commend her dedication to the Takoma Park Folk Festival and to her City.
