Silver Spring news

The Montgomery County Police Department is announcing the creation of The Kyle Olinger Fund through The Montgomery County Police Foundation.

Third District Officer Kyle Olinger was shot in the neck at approximately 12:15 a.m. on August 13 as he was making a traffic stop at Spring Street and Second Avenue in Silver Spring. Investigation has revealed that the two suspects arrested for the shooting, Fadi Kadamani and Terrence Arthur Green, had planned to commit an armed robbery that night in the area where Officer Olinger encountered them. The third suspect, a juvenile, has not been charged and was released to a family member. The investigation is continuing.

Officer Olinger underwent approximately nine hours of surgery on August 13 to repair damage to the trachea and esophagus. He is still recovering from that surgery. The bullet, which rests near his spinal column, has not been removed. It has caused a serious injury to his spinal cord that has caused paralysis from the chest down. While the statistical odds are not favorable for a full recovery from the paralysis, a definitive long-term medical prognosis is still unknown.

The Montgomery County Police Department has established a committee to research, coordinate, and focus efforts as it assesses Officer Olinger's and his family's immediate and future needs.

Anyone who would like to make a monetary contribution can send a check to The Kyle Olinger Fund, c/o The Montgomery County Police Foundation, P.O. Box 8351, Gaithersburg, MD 20898.

Checks should be made payable to The Montgomery County Police Foundation, with a notation in the bottom left corner that the check is for the Kyle Olinger Fund.

Additionally, the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce will serve as a collection point for contributions from members of the business community, and forward them to the Foundation on behalf of the business community. If you wish to make a contribution via GSSCC, please make the check payable to the Montgomery County Police Foundation, with a notation for Kyle Orlinger.
